Canet Mare Nostrum - Camp

11th - 17th June 2009 (Canet - France)

So after racing in Europe for the last couple of weeks we are planning to stay in Canet for a training camp. It's been really nice and relaxed here. With only a small training group of 7 athletes, 1 coach and 1 sports scientist.

The training has gone well, and the week went really quickly.

The weather has very changeable, just like when we were racing. Some days it was mega hot, 35oC then it seemed to cloud over in the afternoons, one day it hammered it down. However it doesn't really matter when you're in the pool and it's raining, as your wet already!

We trained most of the time in the outdoor 50m pool, but I made use of the newly opened indoor 25m pool, where I did some of my speed sessions.

The food at the hotel was really bland, and not very exciting. So on a couple of nights we all went out for dinner as a team. One meal out was to an to an authentic  Catalan restaurant. It was only a short walk away from the hotel, and was amazing, decorated all over with Catalan flags. It was a nice evening so we sat outside on the large terrace surrounded by ancient Olive trees.

It only had a small menu (which I couldn't understand) But the food was very tasty. It was basically skewers of meat cooked on a BBQ! Two of my favourite things lots of Meat and BBQ's!

My favourite skewers were the beef steak and the pork!!!! Amazing !!!!!! I can also recommend the garlic butter dip!!!

Next time I'm in Canet I'm definitely eating there!

On the other meal out, we all went to a Pizzeria. It was only a small restaurant, but did very tasty food and was pretty cheap! I had a pizza with bolognaise sauce and a fried egg in the middle. (sounds weird, But was very good)

Everyone enjoyed their meals in the different restaurants. I think the BBQ Skewer place won for me tho!

All in all we had a great time away on our mini European tour. We all swam well and got some good training in at the same time.

Next stop: Loughborough

Next racing: Glasgow for the Scottish Nationals and World Trails MK 2
