Men’s Olympic Training Camp 27th April – 4th May – Sardinia, Italy Print E-mail

As part of our Olympic selection we get to go away on several training camps between the Trials and the Olympic Games. Sardinia is our first camp and this time it's just the Men's team training together. The women's team is away in Palma, Majorca.

So, here we are in one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in - the Melia' Olbia Hotel! (Check out the photos). The hotel has a 4star rating which was definitely a bonus come food time... It's a fantastic complex which has absolutely everything we need, including a 50m (Olympic size) swimming pool and gym for land work - Oh yeah.... and the SUN!.

When training with the GB squad sometimes you have to improvise and be prepared to deal with unexpected situations and one of the key things we do is work with different coaches and different swimmers. Therefore, for this camp I was coached by Fred Vernoux (Edinburgh and GB) and trained with Gregor Tait (Backstroke), Kris Gilcrist (Breaststroke), Michel Rock (Butterfly) and, Tom Haffield (Individual Medley).

My Room Mate for this camp and all leading up to the games is Chris Cook (Breaststroke).

I often hear people say that ‘time flies when you're having fun' and this camp has gone by so quickly! The atmosphere was relaxed, amongst the boys, and we've had a laugh whilst working hard to get back into the swing of things. After the highs of the Olympic Trails it's crucial that we now re-focus and build the team to be a strong, professional and fun place to be part of. I always have personal targets and goals in training and my main focus for this camp was to work on aerobic, speed and Kick - Job Done!!!
