Foster's silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the championships in Manchester was the 47th of his career.
His relationship with Britain's former performance director Bill Sweetenham broke down when he refused to select him for the 2004 Olympics. "The fun element in the team wasn't there any more," said Foster, who qualified for the Beijing Olympics this month.
"Major championships are supposed to be deadly serious, but swimmers have got to have a bit of fun and there was a certain atmosphere about the team when Bill was there.
"I aspire to being a role model for the younger swimmers." |
